This new DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to New England is all that and a bag of chips. In just under 400 colorful pages, it provides the basic resources to plan an enjoyable trip to New England.The five New England states of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine share a long history, excellent natural scenery, and any number of opportunities for outdoor recreation in any season. Most of New England is no more than a day's drive from the major transportation and cultural hub of Boston, so getting around doesn't have to be a show stopper (well, except for the traffic on I-95 on a holiday weekend). This guide is broken down into sections by state, although Boston of course gets its own chapter. The narrative includes an introduction to the region, traveler's needs, and a survival guide.It is worth remembering that the major attractions in New England can get really crowded in season. Plan ahead, or better yet, go off the beaten path. The pleasant town of Coventry, Connecticut, offers the home of American Revolutionary War spy and patriot Nathan Hale, and a big lake. Deer Isle, Maine, has a spectacular bridge and a real lobstering town on Deer Isle Thorofare. The interiors of all five states have much to offer, even as most visitors flock to the major towns. Explore at will, and take the guide along. Highly recommended.
This guidebook is perfect for the fall trip I am planning with my friends. It includes a larger region of New England, with maps, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. It also includes a section devoted to Boston. The DK guides have great quality: nice pages with colorful photos and diagrams. In general, they are easy to use and durable. They are a good size for carry-along and provide interesting details as you go.
I actually bought this on accident. But, since I have always wanted to go to New England in the Fall, I will keep it so that I can plan my trip. The book arrived in great condition. The box it was shipped in was rather large for the purchase; however, that guaranteed it arrived in great condition. I look forward to a New England trip with the guiding of DK.
While waiting for the four faiths tour to start at the Touro Synagog Leob Visitors Center, I saw a German couple reading and sharing the book, I thought that it was one of the best laid out and most informative visually that I was aware of. Promptly ordered the English language version and have been happily planning day trips using the book. I retired the first of August 2016 back to New England so that I could finally pay tourist and visit all those sites that I went to as a child or as a class trip and did not necessarily appreciate. As an adult, having both read and listened to MOBY DICK, I very much want to spend a day doing the museum and national park. Be warned and take a decent magnifying glass with you. Excellent and handy and getting to be well thumbed.
I only purchase DK Eyewitness Travel Books for any of my travels. This book encapsulates the most important information for key features of every city. The color photos and page layout make doing trip research enjoyable. Restaurant and accommodation info are up to date and factual. Books are small and easy to take with you for reference.
